The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services late July 3 issued its proposed rule for the physician fee schedule for calendar year 2015. Under the Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014, physician payments will remain flat through March 31, 2015, at which time, they will decline by a mandated 20.9% without congressional intervention. Other provisions in the proposed rule include payment for chronic care management services, application of the value-based payment modifier, and updates to the scoring methodology for accountable care organizations in the Medicare Shared Savings Program to recognize year-to-year improvement in performance scores.
